Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a psychotherapy based on the belief that the way individuals perceive a situation is more indicative of their reaction than the situation itself.
One important part of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is helping clients become aware of negative thought processes and perceptions that can lead to unhealthy and self-defeating behavior. CBT asserts that by recognizing and working to change these thought patterns, individuals can achieve greater happiness and healthier behavior.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy uses a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy combines many therapeutic modalities including dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, Gestalt therapy, compassion focused therapy, mindfulness, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, interpersonal psychotherapy, and when it comes to personality disorders, psychodynamic psychotherapy.
